It is the time of the year again when you need to think about Christmas cards for your business. To send Christmas cards to your clients can be a great way to say thank you for year that past, or simply just to remind them of you’re existence. You can also send Christmas Cards to potential clients that you want to work with in the coming year. It is always more interesting to receive a personally designed Christmas greeting card with your logo and your choice of design. In this tutorial you will learn how to make an elegant design for your Business Christmas Card.
Create a new file in InDesign with the size 105x148mm.
Starting with the background, draw a rectangle over the page with the ‘Rectangle Tool’. Make sure it goes outside the edge of the page for the 3 mm bleed needed in print. Make the rectangle dark red, C=41 M=100 Y=100 K=7.
With the ‘Pen Tool’, draw an area similar to this.
Add a radial gradient between the colours C=15 M=100 Y=100 K=0 and C=41 M=100 Y=100 K=72. Set the centre point closer to the lighter red by dragging the square on the colour bar.
Right click and choose ‘Effects>Drop Shadow’. Add a drop shadow and an outer glow with the values as below.
Draw a new area with the ‘Pen Tool’ and add the same gradient colour and effects as in step 5 and 6.
With the ‘Pen Tool’, draw 3 areas that look like ribbons. Make one white, one red (C=15 M=100 Y=100 K=20), and one yellow (C=0 M=29 Y=93 K=0).
Draw a small circle with the ‘Ellipse Tool’. Make it white and add a 2mm feather by right clicking and choosing ‘Basic Feather’. Open the ‘Effects’ tab in the right hand side and choose ‘Overlay’ as the blending mood.
Duplicate the circle, make them different sizes and scatter them over the ribbons.
Next step is to make the first Christmas ornament. Draw a circle with the ‘Ellipse Tool’. Open the ‘Gradient’ tab in the right hand side and make radial gradient between: C=0 M=29 Y=93 K=0, C=41 M=100 Y=100 K=37 and C=41 M=100 Y=100 K=72. Place the squares on the bar as below. Instead of just applying the gradient to the circle, use the Gradient Swatch Tool and click in the top right of the circle and drag down left as seen below.
Duplicate it twice and make the balls different sizes. Add yellow thin lines from the top of the balls to the edge of the page. Make three lines with the ‘Pen Tool’. Make the lines white. Open the ‘Stroke’ tab in the right hand side and make the lines ‘Dotted’. Make one line 4pt, one 2pt and the last 1pt.
Use the ‘Type Tool’ and write Merry Christmas in ‘Edwardian Script’.
Go to your last page and draw a rectangle over the page and make it a linear gradient between C=41 M=100 Y=100 K=37 and C=41 M=100 Y=100 K=72.
Go to your middle pages and add your logo on the left side, in the bottom of the page.
Copy the rectangle from the backside and place it on the right middle page. Draw another rectangle on top of it and make it white. Finally add your message in a text box in the white area.
