What do I need to bear in mind concerning print data?

Graphics and images
A resolution of 300dpi is for images and graphics recommended (grey scales and colour pictures 300dpi, line arts 1200dpi, placards 200dpi).

Colours / colour mode
Grey scale or CMYK-colour mode
Attention: Shall you have not selected data check, documents in RGB-mode will be automatically converted into CMYK-mode. We assume no liability for any resulting colour deviations.

Bleed area
Always create your data files in original format plus 3mm bleed difference all-round.
Attention: For orders without data checks any print data which is too small or too large will be automatically scaled.
Place your contents far enough from the margin of the end format (approx. 5mm).
Place your background graphics and images which should reach the edge of the printed product until the bleed area.

Fonts
We recommend you to convert the fonts into paths/curves.
Please completely integrate the fonts (if not converted into paths/curves).
Use at least the font size of 6pt.

Lines
Use no hairlines! (Lines should have a thickness of at least 0,25mm/ 0,75pt.)
Use no borders or frames which should act as final edge for the original format!

Data save
Construct products with several pages bound together (brochures etc.) always as individual pages. Save your
ongoing individual pages into a PDF-document (no double pages). Please pay attention to name clearly each data file (e.g. job number p1, job number p2,…)
Multiple page templates, divided by a fold, must be created re-assembled.

postcard
One side of our postcardboard is writable so please mind the exact name of your print files. The front side (picture side) is finished with a print lacquer and the back side (address side) is writable.

For a more detailed instruction with useful tips & tricks for creating your print data, please find here our print
data guide.
You will find templates with customized sizes for your final product in our Template download.

What do I need to bear in mind concerning folders with gate fold?

For a 6-sided folded leaflet with gate fold, the two outsides are folded to the middle without overlapping.

For an 8-sided folded leaflet with gate fold, first the two outsides are folded to the middle without overlapping. An additional fold in the middle of the sheet of paper makes an 8-sided gate fold.

  1. Create your document with two sides lying next to each other.
  2. Specify the open format, not the end format.
  3. Add a bleed difference of 3mm to your open format (which means adding 3mm to the left, right, top and bottom of the open format).
  4. For a 6-sided folded leaflet with gate fold, both outsides must be created 1mm narrower than half of the centre part.
  5. For an 8-sided folded leaflet with gate fold, both outsides must be created 2mm narrower than the insides, or the closed format.

  1. mark the fold lines with aid lines
  2. place the text with 5 mm distance to the fold edges and margins
  3. take into consideration that all unnecessary lines (e.g. aid lines or printing tips) must be removed before final save
  4. Pre-formatted templates for folded leaflets with gate fold are here.

About Java

What is Java?

  1. Java is a special programming language whose programs run on all systems (PC, MAC, Solaris etc.). Therefore, however, a small program (“Java Runtime environment”) has to be installed on your computer. You can download this program for free here .

Why is Java needed?

  1. To transmit your data comfortably and without any errors.

What if I do not have or want to install Java?

  1. In that case, there is an alternative upload centre available. It is, however, only suitable for small files and does not include a progress bar or other such convenient functions.

On the upload page, there is only a grey box and I cannot do anything.

  1. The upload centre may take a moment to load and start up, depending on your internet connection. If an error occurs during loading, a red X will appear in the top-left corner of the box.

What does the error “Connection refused“mean?

  1. Your data will be transmitted via an FTP-protocol. Please configure your firewall so that it allows the upload of data via port 21.
